Ok all of you i hate import people need to shut the hell up fo one thing our 400 hp could waste your 400 hp you need to havee double our hp to even beat us.
i say:
what the fuck are you talking about? i assume you're saying a 400 horse import is equal to a 200 horse pushrod.
if you're saying the opposite, you're full of shit. you're 400 horsies and 100lb ft at 8900 rpm is nothing compared to my 450 horse and 500lb ft at 5600. and on top of that, my roller cam means my powerband is not only the same size as your dohc motor, but also means i can build power at both ends of that band.
now that i've acted like a punk, i'll bet you were saying the former ;-)

your statement is a load of horseshit. for the reasons above and also.
you say more weight = more need for hp. bullshit. that is what torque is for. that's why a 100hp 600lb ft oldsmobile 455 can pull a 23000 pound motorhome.
so your light weight car is only a speed based benefit because you have no torque. if you had torque you wouldn't have to gut your car before you idiots went to the races. that's why my dodge truck with no mods runs the same quarter with a bed full of steel as it does empty. and just a note, it hooks up like god when empty, so i'm not gaining traction from the weight.
second, you note aerodynamics. come on, junior, you dumb ass ricers talk about aerodynamics like you were a fuckin rocket scientist, then you put a four foot tall parachute park bench on the back of your front wheel drive car. a stock honda civic is more aerodynamic than one with any body kit.
as for the non aerodynamic nature of domestics, well, torque conquers that as well. see, horsepower is a function of torque. torque is like a multiplier. torque launches your ass off the line, means you get more horse throughout the powerband (that's why between 7 and 8 grand your car feels fast, but mine feels fast from 2200 to 7000).
and guess what fucknut, i own three imports too. and they're fast. as all hell. you know why? because i built them using techniques that domestic engines have perfected for years. your intake and your exhaust and your turbo won't do you a shit bit of good without a good slug of torque. it'll build you a car that would kick ass at the track, but not at the drag strip. how many times has your car been to sears point? mine's been three times (my four door bmw 530i that is, and within 13 laps i sucked up every honda derivative there). and my engine was a stock 8.5:1 compression 6 with 4 cylinder intake runners, headers and an intake. guess what jerky, it built nearly 200lb ft of torque. STOCK!
so del sol boy, learn a thing or two. instead of trying to be mr. 'i hate the import haters.' why not listen to why they hate you and changing your ways. if you did, your car would be a lot faster.
here are a couple rules you ought to follow:
there ain't no replacement for displacement.
shifting at 9 grand might feel real good in the seat of your pants, but if you shifted at 6, you'd probably run a quicker quarter mile.
increasing flow through your engine with intake and exhaust kills your torque. a little backpressure in the ass end with a good cold air intake is better than that 4" retard exhaust all of you seem to be so fond of.
gears!!!! regear your shit to a close ratio box and stay in your powerband as long as possible instead of revving to 7 or 8 grand in first gear just to keep it from bogging into second.
finally (you stupid fucks). an automatic is better than a manual in the quarter mile any day. a machine is always better than a human. and with a vehicle that doesn't build any power until 3 grand, it may very well be your only way to avoid the bog. do they even make stall converters for honda automatics? go buy one. 3500 rpm and you'll run at least a second off the stock quarter mile time.
instead of acting like a whiney bitch about the fact that all of us with FAST cars look oddly at you on the street and at the track, why not contemplate why we do?
want to know why? cause you dump all your money into shit that makes your car .25 seconds faster than stock. when in reality if you'd just ask us what to do, you could run a hell of a lot better times.
that and we really do see running nos as cheating. and we know that you're not only cheating, but you're gonna blow your motor sky high one of these days due to your addiction to the shit. and that bothers us, because you could have spent that money more effectively.
any more questions, ask.

Yeah... what he said. I only made it halfway through the first chapter, but the part i read sounded good.... I'm too hungover to read that much right now....

i agree with everything except the autobox being better than manual.
im sure your right in saying that but do you need any special kind of auto gearbox? all the autoboxes ive driven are shite, including the bmw 528 motorsport i drove round england for two days.
with a manual box, yeh you can make slower changes, but only if your change mechanism and clutch are shit and you don't know how to drive properly. at least with a manual you can choose when to change at what rpm. with an autobox, they never seam to time it right imho.
now, the perfect solution would be the semi-auto gear boxes. Computer actually changes the cog, but the driver chooses by flicking the shifter up or down, F1 or WRX style.
Ive still got to fix my gear linkage on my VW, but on my stock 306 TD (90ishbhp, 120ish-lb/ft) I still make quicker gear changes than anyone else I know who runs a stock gearbox/clutch. I beat much quicker cars off the line at traffic lights, but then they kick my ass when i get in to 3rd.. not my fault.. its the sluggish diesel engine (not that i care.. very low insurance and 50mpg!)
can't you get a computer to reprogram your shifting points or something if your auto isn't shifitng properly. and i saw one of those auto manual things my first time on an alfa romeo no clutch or anything flick the paddle behind the wheel and it shafts as fast as an auto without use of a clutch and i belive ferrari has a system like it on the modeno. i think the only reason ricers like manuals is cuz they can downshift and it makes their car fart with those 4 inch tips and they can rev on people easier. very sell said uglystick

don't get me wrong fonz, i love manual transmissions. there is nothing like grabbing your own gears. and for any application discounting drag racing, the manual is far and above the best setup possible. and even for drag racing, if you can adequately increase your clutch spring rates, decrease the pedal throw without compromising the engagement/disengagement of the clutch, and decrease your shifter throw without compromising the synchros, then a manual is just as good as an auto in drag racing as well. my reason for using an automatic in drag racing is simply because it decreases the heinous number of variables associated with trying to hit your et. see, round here we don't do heads up. only after you've been knocked out of the bracket racing. then you're in the losers lane and they'll pair my el camino up against a crx or some bs. until then, it's all about bracket racing: ie, guessing what time you're going to run, then getting as close as possible without running faster (breaking out). if you really want to win a bracket race, you have two options: pad the shit out of your time and simply beat your opponent OR run an auto and try to minimize the variables and run a consistent time.
needless to say, most dipshit import kids can't shift worth a piss. remind me to tell you of the acura integra 'gs-r'(sure it was...), i raced in my self procalimed 'old piece of shit chrysler powered dodge.' i thought the trans was going to shoot shit through the casing his shifts were so brutally harsh...
now, as for auto's not being performance oriented, you're right. the zf4hp22 that you had in that 528 is a piece of shit. but if you take the valve body out and put a dinan custom valve body in, that fucker will shift so hard it'll put your nuts in your throat. see, the chambers in an automatic that route flow of fluid determine when and how hard an auto shifts. change those chambers and passageways, and the slushbox 2 second slug shifter turns into a crisp tire barking monster. ask me how, i know.
and for the other guy who asked about getting a computer upgrade to make the shift harder, those systems basically boost the pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the trans, which makes them do the same job, only quicker (and maybe shift at a higher rpm). a "shift kit" is just a couple of gaskets and replacement springs to 1. change the pressure of the fluid (with the spring) and 2. with a few paper/metal gaskets you effectively change the routing of the fluid.
there is a better way to go though, buying or having milled a custom valve body (ato trans in rancho cordova is who i went to. call 411 if you want one...)
now, as for those sequential boxes, i'm still very undecided on them. first off, quaife's sequential manual boxes cost nearly 13,000 dollars. i mean, shit on a stick, i could buy a nine speed lenco for that. and then i could go 300mph in reverse!!! for those of you who are unfamiliar with the greatest invention in the history of gearing, go to:
that by far is the best transmission for drag racing purposes, or hell, for most purposes. you can use it with a clutch, but a clutch is not required. they are fucking bad assed. want more gears? just add more planetary units onto the back. then for reverse, you literally have a 'reverser' rod that allows you to change the output direction entirely, ie, now you have five gears of reverse!
also, on the sequential gearbox tip, most good sequential boxes still use a clutch. if they don't.... it's a fuckin auto with fancy handles. unless they're like my buddy joe who rigged a bunch of high end pan and tilt controls up to a richmond six speed in order to make a solenoid operated paddle control. you hit the paddle, it hits the clutch, pops the car into the next gear, drops the clutch. the cool thing about his homemade system was that when you hit the paddle, the gearshift in the car actually moves. then if you wanted to use the shifter, it's still available for conventional use without any switching a computer on or off. the computer continuously keeps track of your gear based upon functionality housed in those pan/tilt solenoids and sensors.... talk about a nutcase.
this is the same guy who built a flathead with cross drilled rods. and the same guy who took a '50's dump truck without the bed, chopped 5 feet of length out of the frame to make a little bulldog monster truck powered by a tripower 427....in high school!

my brothers friend in his elcaminoi have no clue how but it's a 68 with a done up small block 283 and it was an auto and he must of had one hell of a setup in his tranny because he could squawk second with his auto not sur ehe had a shift kit in it it just looks cool to see an auto squawking 2nd gear

my el camino with 2.73 rear end gear 1 wheel would BURN second gear for a good second or two. and it'd bark third too. well, for about a week. then i shit the spider gears out the cover...
;-) not kidding, it looked like a metal toothed monster was trying to chew its way out of the cover of the pumpkin...
a lot of that is the fact that your bro's friend and i have cars that have no weight in the back...
oh, i'll have some pics for you of the el camino soon(ish)...my truck crapped out today or i'd go take photos right now...

peg leg...lol...I know how that one works...and for a import vs the american..I race a riced out prelude. I mean he had a 50hp shot of NOS. intake exhaust cams, head work and all this other crap. He probably had 200 at least to the wheels...well to make a long story longer...lol..we raced...but I killed him...I have a 2 barrel, 3.00 gears, cam, exhaust, (headers), and shift kit...thats all I had..I killed the riced out pos...oh well...now I have almost none of that stuff. And before that I had even more stuff...man my car could haul...it really wasn't a 1/8 mile performer but in the 1/4 and for top end speed...man it is and was a great car...good times..
Go Ahead....

I didnt get on over the week end and I saw a post about the torque and weight. The Supras are heavy ass cars 1400 - 1600 kg's (I dont know in LBS) and the torque is shit house. So unless it is the turbo variant it aint all that great
Calm your arse down, sorry to say this but you are one of those people that give import drivers bad names...
And you wonder why they give us heaps of shit, you need to remember that you are on the Domestic forum...if you want to talk shit the go to the Imports forum and dont come on here and blurt out a load of shit unless you have researched or know your shit.
What you need to do is get out there and show that you are not just a keyboard Bandit and show that your import is worth anything.
Hey you may lose you may win but if you lose you just have to admit to yourself that either you have a lot of work ahead of you or realise that there will always be some one faster than you.
good answer cocksucker. better hope you never come up to my neck of the woods or you'll be using a crowbar to pull that del sol out of the rocker panels of my scout.
