it really doesnt matter if its an import or not basically you can race if your car is considered a compact car and has a 4 cylinder engine. Why you gonna built a chevette drag car? that would be pretty sweet!

neon's have a history of being raced (road racing), i don't know how any one even begins to think about racing a chevette, maybe you should take it to an import event and when you bust out your 19 flat you will get your ass laughed off the track

8 valve OHC 4 cyl 95 cubic inches of pissed off chevy65 HP 80 ft-lbs Borg-Warner T5 2300lbs

neon... rally racing and drag racing are a big difference... and chevette's were used in rally racing too
