Yeah, I came back. Why? Dunno... Posted Wed Jul 21, 04 3:06 AM
Hey y'all,
My wife and I moved recently to Washington state. Had to get the fuck out of the peoples republic of california before they ran us out on a rail for dumping hydrocarbons into their precious atmosphere.
The fleet of foot in your ass is doing well. New news first: my dad just started buyin parts for a 302 (destroked 327) SBC that I designed for him. Twin Turbo, Scat Ultralight Crank, 10,000+ rpm if you really wanted to, over 2:1 rod to stroke ratio. He's gonna put it in a car that'll weigh 1500lbs including the engine.
The Jag XJS w/ Quad 45DCOE Sidedraft Throttle EFI on my old El Camino's 383 Stroker is alive like Frankenstein on crystal meth and the car's electricals have been fully sorted (no easy task, mind you). And I don't mean the headlights work, the auto door locks, remote mirrors, trip computer, you name it - it works. Best yet, it has a fine new coat of Brooklands Racing Green w/ more pearl than the south pacific in the mix. Next up - Some BFG Radial T/A's with which to write my name down my new Main St. For those who haven't seen, the underhood looks like the summit catalog with a little aircraft hardware and old school Fred Larsen built induction to boot.
Dad's Saab engine is finished, and if you don't know, your ass better call somebody. Break in dyno run soon and my guess is the little bastard will shear all the teeth off the 3rd gear cluster when it gets on boost. Did I mention the tranny's brand new? That won't matter.
My '75 BMW 3.0 CS engine is almost finished; 7.7:1 CR with ceramic coated pistons, skirts, main and rod bearings; full race balance; total seal gapless second ring; o ringed block deck; '92 7er Cylinder Head w/ SS Custom Valves, Ported, Etc. Same ol twin turbo water to air intercooled intake; same old been sittin on the shelf for a year T3/T04e Hybrid.
Went down to Sacramento two weekends back to help a friend move. Rented a Mini Cooper S, took the lil bitch to Sac Raceway and ran a 15.28...not bad for my first drag race at a track with a manual trans. Other Mini Cooper S there was running mid 16's. They're supercharged w/ and intercooled roots blower if you don't know. That car is a serious blast. My best friend's 18 y/o little sister took her '69 Mary out and ran 14.30's all night long.
Anyway, I quit my job when we moved, kept about 10 hours a week in work with them from home, and I'm going back to school for CNC/CAD in about a month.
How has everyone been? Not gonna name names, y'all know who you are.

Hey I race at sac when were you there?
So how do those mini cooper S' run? I wish I saw it run at the track. Low 15s doesn't sound bad at all for that car. I bet it would be a fun car to mod.

I was there two fridays back. If you were there with a GTP I would have imagined we would have spoken, as I really love that car. Another user here from way back has one as well.
The cooper S is a fun little ride, COMPLETELY linear powerband, no exponent factor at all between 1500 and 6500rpm. It just pulls, and pulls, and pulls, and that's it, shift. Funny thing is, i bogged the sheeyat out of 1st in my first run of the night and pulled a 16.89, was embarassed, then ran a 15.50 right after that, felt better. Next run - against a national champion bracket racer in a red VW bug. He skunked me on reaction then I went to catch up, caught him and broke out by 3 tenths for a 15.28.

That is wierd they let you run against each other on fridays. Normally it is one car at atime on the test and tune nights. I have seen that red bug with all the stickers run a few times on fridays though.
I was there 7/2 and 7/16 so I must have just missed you.

One of the guys at scat has run this same rotating assembly to 12,300 digitally logged. Like I think I noted, my dad will probably still shift at 5500rpm. hehe...
a small journal 302 chevy with an ultralight crank WILL spin high, no doubt.
