true, but it's not a production car yet, and it's going to cost a lot more proportionally (that would be adjusted for inflation for all you econ majors out there) than the 16s back in the day. and I was just pointing out that there are a lot of engine combos (we left out inline 5s and 6s and whatever else there may have been) and there hasn't really been an original number in a while.

Well, I was trying to include them by mentioning inline fives (are they not inline?). There are also straight 8s (old domestics) and there are the four and six cylinder boxer engines (vw and subaru to name two and porsche as well for the six). There are just too darn many to mention all together, and there may be too many that people haven't even heard of (like the mathon v16 that I posted a picture of a while back after I went to the Petersen Museum). But dammit, just like there are redheads, blondes, and brunettes, it all just makes them more interesting.

...and then you have your rotaries where there are no cylinders, and where displacement doesnt matter!

Why is that weird? If you have a V8, you have two "banks" of cylinders (one side of the V and the other), so you twin charge it. With the W engine you have four "banks" (one for each side of each V put together to make the W), so you quad charge it. sounds just about right to me. Such a sweet car, weighs as much as a V6 camry but has more than FIVE TIMES the hp. It's automotive porn I tell you. It's the stuff car nut wet dreams are made of.

Yep, another one I forgot to mention. the engine that just spins. I can just imagine if someone today came up with that, what the response would be. "It spins to make power. It doesn't go up and down, it just spins." "Well, Johnson, I think it's about time we let you go now. Lunatic." But it's such a wonderful thing. If Mazda can get it truly perfected (get lower emissions, better mileage, and better midrange power without having to put a turbo on it), then it would be just about the perfect engine. No having to worry about getting stronger internals to handle higher rpms. So much easier.
