well, back to your question.....

I would at least consider another car to purchase. There is not a large aftermarket for your current car so customizing it would be somewhat difficult. The best you could hope for is a nitrous kit with I/H/E and a body kit...but that would only get you so far.
I would say pick up a Honda, Eclipse, or SX Nissan and you'd be alot better off. I like hondas for the simplicity they offer and you can do alot to them for really cheap, but if you wander off the path too much you're just another ricer with a wing if you don't do it right.
